Tennis ft A Grumpy Tutor

“Smack, Bang, Hit!” There were so many balls flying over and all around the courts. I just couldn’t help contemplating, that I could get hit by one. 3cm away from my face and all I could see was a ball zooming like a racing car.

“Oh my gosh” I ran away to the sideline of the netball courts. Room 20 was with a guy wearing some shorts and a t-shirt. Next to him was a whole lot of gear, tennis balls, racquets, bags and nets. This could only mean one thing. We were going to be learning how to play tennis for this term’s PE. By the way.... wait... What’s his name again? I had missed his name, but he looked at all of room 20 with this scary look on his face, so in my head I named him the ‘grumpy tutor’. He seemed to be in a grumpy mood today. Oh no... this sounded like some terrible things could of happened.

As he told us to each get hold of a tennis ball and racquet, all the girls went to one side of the court and all the boys to the other. First of all he taught us how to hold a racquet correctly.
“Put the racquet on the ground!” that man instructed us in a sturn tone. We did what we were told. He shaped his hands into the correct position and he told us, kids to do the same. We followed on.

About 10 minutes later, we had learnt how to hold the racquet and were on our way learning some basic hitting techniques. First was the forehand, which was a hit done from the side. It was as if you were just rocking your hands back and fro.

I learnt that pretty easily, now that we had a few of our techniques nailed. The grumpy man gave us a challenge. We weren’t at the stage of a challenge yet... I guess. We had to hit the ball as if it was a hot potato and then twist your racquet to the side and hit it back, with the edge of the racquet. Well to be honest, it was pretty hard and as I said, we weren’t up to a challenge yet, well actually, I wasn’t up to a challenge yet!

After we had finished all that he told us to get in partners, so I partnered up with Thora. He told us each to get on either side of the nets and get into 1’s and 2’s. I was number 1 so my job in this game was to just throw the ball at Thora and her job was to just hit it back with the racquet. It was pretty easy, since she was doing it right. When it came out that now Thora was the one that had to throw the ball at me and I had to hit it back, it started getting a little frustrating because  whenever I did, I’d mistakenly hit the ball in the wrong direction. I was just not getting it right.

Not so long after, the grumpy man blew the whistle, which meant time’s up. He told us to get hold of our racquets and tennis balls and put them in the pile where all the racquets were scuttered all over the ground and all the balls were neatly in a box.  I had an amazing time learning how to play tennis. Well, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would have been. I just hope that in our next session with the man would be better and this time he’ll not be so FIESTY!

What is a Comet?

At the beginning of last week, Ms Nua gave room 20 a task, which we had to complete in a group of 2. In this we were given a word or phrase associated with space / solar system, by Mrs Nua and had to create a small presentation and tell our audience what the word means. Sylvia and I were given the world 'comet'. What is a comet? Here is the presentation that Sylvia and I have created. We had to inform  our audience what a comet is. By the end of this presentation, I hope you know what this strange thing really is, which floats in the solar system. Hope you enjoy.

Multiple Intelligences Test Results

Today as we were talking about Multiple Intelligences. Mrs Nua showed us a link to this website. On this website you can see what intelligences, represent you. For this, we had to take a test, where we had to be honest and answer it correctly. I did my best and here are the results.

As you can see, my 2 highest intelligences are interpersonal and kinaeshtetic smart. These are, people smart and body smart. Why don't you have a look at this website, and see what are your multiple intelligences.

Favourites of All!!

I love...
Lying peacefully in my cozy, comfortable bed makes me want to go to sleep forever.
Sweet, amazing and intelligent. That’s what I call the best sister ever.
Blue as stunning as the royal rocking blue cars that zoom past every night.
I love the sound of loud banging music vibrating through my headphones as if they were about to pop any second.
Rose as prickly as it could be, one touch on its prickle and in no time there will be blood smothered over you, but still roses represent love.
And these are my favourites of all.

Exhilarating All Blacks Fans!

My sister spoke into my ear “Hurry up and get ready, we’re going town, and I know you want to come, so don’t say no!”.  It had been minutes since she had said that. As we got to town we met up with some of my sisters friends. Getting there was pretty hard since everything was packed like a colony of bees. You turn to the right and see people dressed up and supporting the All Blacks you turn to the left and see supporters of the France team, there weren’t many. Well to be honest, there were mostly All Black fans, so the France supporters were NOTHING compared to the All Blacks fans.

As the sun set, town got more packed. People started drinking and smoking more and more. Everybody was walking in all directions. There was only about 1 hour left till the Rugby World Cup and everybody started sitting down on the streets to get ready and to watch the RWC.

The game was only 10 minutes away to the start and everybody gathers together to watch it. All the players were shown on screen and everybody started screaming and shouting there heads off. My ears felt like they were about to explode any second. Luckily they didn't.

40 minutes up and the score was 5 - 0 and the leading team was the All Blacks. Everybody stands up, takes a stretch, then sits back down. My ears were going to explode any minute again. The game had started again, and all that cheering started again. Was I going to survive through a heap of that?

The tension started building up. The France team was catching up to the all Blacks and there was a possibility that they could win against New Zealand. “No way, this can’t happen” I repeated in my mind several times. The score was 8 - 7 and still in the leading position was the All Blacks.

People start the countdown until the end of the Final game. As soon as the referee said 80 minutes up, everybody starts screaming and hugging. Throwing bottles of bear on the ground, there was glass smothered over the roads. Richie McCaw proudly held the Webb Ellis Cup for New Zealand and now I’m proud to say  “I’m a All Blacks supporter / fan”.

Mubasshira Gets Rugby Fever!

Well, you might not now, but Term 3 came to an end and all the students have been enjoying their holidays. This is just a small post to inform you what I really liked about this term.

The thing I liked best about this term is that our topic was about Rugby, in fact not just rugby but actually keeping your eye on the ball. What I thought this meant was to be helpful, not letting anybody in your team down, and trying your best.

One of the other things I really liked was that because of this topic, I have really started liking a few sports. Not exactly playing it but watching it, it has been really fun during the holidays. Before, I didn’t really like watching sports  e.g 10-15 minutes after watching a game I would start getting bored, but now, I enjoy it and I’m proud to say “I’m a All Black’s Fan”

During these holidays, I’ve had a lot of fun watching the RWC (Rugby World Cup), especially supporting the All Blacks.  Yesterday, the All Blacks played Australia which was in the semi-finals 2 and THEY WON!! I’m extremely happy that they have gone to the finals and I hope they win against France on Sunday, October 23.

Anyways, I thought this term was amazing and I hope this following term is better since the year 8’s will also be leaving to college. I hope this next term will be the best of this year.

Rugby World Cup Prediction

Today, New Zealand will verse Japan in the Rugby World Cup. I think that New Zealand will win because from the last game the All Blacks played which was New Zealand verse Tonga. I think the All Blacks will win. The score in the previous game was 41 - 10. I am not sure because on the other hand there is also a chance for Japan to win.

Our Place, Our Team Presentation

This is a presentation that I have made in a group. My group consisted of 4 people which are Selena, Sylvia, Thora and Me. Our presentation was about Our Place and Our Team. We had to inform people that are coming to NZ for the Rugby World Cup (RWC) and people that are coming to New Zealand, what it is like and some cool places that you should see. I hope you enjoy reading my presentation.

The Beep Test

Yesterday was the first day where I participated in a beep test. I'm sure you know what a beep test is? If not let me tell you. This is a test where you get to see where you are at in running and how fit you are. The test involves running 20 meters back and fourth. Did you know that for a rugby player their results have to be between level 14-15 to get into a rugby team.

According to my results on the beep test, I wasn't really please with myself. I had got 3.3.
This test is all about speed, intensity, commitment and much more. I think that I didn't give it my hardest because when I was up to level 3.3 and the next beep went and I had to run, I actually stopped. I think that when we have our second beep test which will be at the end of this term, I will give it my hardest and try not to stop in the middle of the way.

Day One of the Holidays and Back in School Uniform!

As my hands took hold of my mobile I scrolled down through all the messages and strangely I found a message from Mrs Tele'a. I read "Hi Mubasshira, can you meet me at school at 2:30, today in full school uniform, for a photo shoot for the NZ Herald". I quit out of my messages and was astonished by what time it was. I raced out of my bed, got changed into my school uniform and headed towards school.

Mrs Tele’a introduced me to the two men who were standing in the ICT room. “Hi my name is Simon Collins” and “My name is Dean”. As Dean started to talk to us, Toreka and I were given our positions to take. The article they were writing was mostly about how people leave college, work and university at certain ages.

After Dean had taken the photos he walked away and started to have a chat with Mrs Tele’a, while Simon sat beside Toreka and me. He started asking both of us questions and had a good look at our blogs. One of the things he did was to count how many countries our blog viewers come from. First of all he started by counting Toreka’s ones. She had around 80-90 countries. Simon started to count up my ones and at the end, our result was amazing. “104 countries represented on your blog!” Simon gasped.

“We had a great time talking to you” Simon said as we all walked towards the car park to see them off. After they had gone, Toreka decided to drop me off home. I had a great time that day, I was going to be in the NZ Herald! Now, that was an accomplishment for me.

If you would like to see the article that I was in, here is the link.
If you would want to know more about Simon Collins then here is the link.
I hope you enjoy reading the article.

Glee

Whenever our classroom is taught by Ms Muliaumaseali’i, we do art. During this time I was appointed as the chief movie-maker. The movie appeared on the screen in the hall during our performance for Glee, I felt immensely proud. I have really enjoyed doing this movie and here, I am about to reveal more.

You must be wondering what Glee is? Dancing, singing, rapping, hip hop, etc would be the type of club I would explain this as. What is my role in this club? I operate the sound and anything involving technical devices. I also make movies for this club.

Making movies for glee is really an exciting job since I get given advice from a professional director. Videos which were made for Glee weren’t really easy because they always need the best soundtrack that fits the movie and everything has to be perfect e.g the images, videos, etc. The video’s that are put in this movie have to be a certain length. I also have to make sure that I didn’t misconstrue Ms M when she tells me to do things for the movie.

Glee is a very cool club which makes people confident. It enables us to show and share our talent to people around our school. Sometimes, if we are lucky enough, we get to perform in front of a concert to! I think that this club is an amazing place to dance, sing and it’s also very entertaining for our school. Glee is all about being confident since this ‘C’ word inspires a lot of people and it tells them to take themselves to another stage.

Goal Animation

Room 20 were given a task where we had to make an animation for our goals for this year. I really enjoyed making this animation because in here it tells you what I have been trying to achieve. If you watch my animation you will find out what my goals for this year are. I hope you enjoy.

Netball Practice with Emma!

It was a Thursday afternoon and our break time had just finished. Room 20 stood in a straight line, all chattering to the person next to them. We reached our destination which was the netball courts and we were greeted by a lady wearing a bright orange coloured jumper. She introduced herself. Her name was Emma and then she told us what she was here for.

We were at the netball courts because from then on, for five weeks we were going to be having netball skills and drills. Our whole class was participating in this activity and it was really exciting.

First of all we started off with our dynamic stretches. These were pretty simple. I thought they were going to be easy since when I saw Emma doing it, they looked so easy but then I realized how fun they were but also at the same time they were very tiring and breath-taking.

At first we were put into teams and told rules of netball. That was weird because we weren’t going to be playing any games at all. Here are some rules that I learnt:
1. You can’t walk with the ball in your hand.
Consequence: The ball gets given to the other team.
2. You have to stand next to the player with the same position from the other team.

I have learnt a lot of things from these netball sessions. I think that netball is a amazing sport and there are many things you need to learn before you play.

The Inventor of The Telephone

A few days ago we were given a task by Mrs Nua. Our class had to pick a piece of paper and on that piece of paper would have been written an object/person that we had to research. My group consisted of two other people which was, Ala and Tamara. We had to think of how telephones were used back in the olden days and what people used to interact with others. I have learnt a lot and today I am going to be telling you what I have learnt from the research I did with ‘Telephone’.

Telephones are a of device that are very common nowadays but do you ever wonder how people tried to interact in the ancient times? There were many types of phones that were used in the olden days.

A type of device that people used to interact with was called the the tin can telephone, or 'lover's phone.' It has been known for centuries and it was connected to a taut string or wire, which transmitted sound by mechanical vibrations from one to the other along the wire. The classic example is the children's toy made by connecting the bottoms of two paper cups, metal cans, or plastic bottles with string.

In the late 1880s two inventors Elisha Gray and Alexandra Bell both corresponded to create ‘The Telephone’ transmitting speech electronically. The very first telephone call was in 1915! Looking at a couple of factors on who actually designed ‘The Telephone‘ was created by Antonio Meucci in 1857.

As my group delve deeper to find more information about Alexandra Graham Bell, we found out that he died because of pernicious anemia at age 75. I think that he was a very great person and he had made one of the most amazing inventions in the world.

Amazing Mind Tricks!

The science roadshow is an event that we went to today at 9:30am at Tamaki College. We were all split up into groups of 5 and given a topic we had to focus on. In my group there was Shontal, Seini-Mino, Toreka, Selena and I.

According to me, the most intriguing display was the Vanishing Leprechauns. This was a piece of puzzle that included three pieces and they made a illusion in your mind. There were fifteen leprechauns and were perfectly cut out into two pieces which you could move, when you flipped (slide) them around they created an illusion and there were fourteen leprechauns on those three pieces.

Isn’t that amazing?

I would like to thank this (link) for letting me use this image.

Creativity Task

This term Pt England School is learning about Bigger, Better, Faster Stronger. Team 5 (year 7 and 8) have 5 aspects of this topic which is Innovation, Discovery, Creativity, Practicality, Imagination. Each teacher was given a word and they had to do a task with all the classes in the block.

Miss Tito's class was the class that we went to 3rd. Her aspect of this topic was creativity. As we sat down, she told us the task and we had to finish it in one hour.

Our Task: Use your creativity and design your name. We could use images off google. The image you see above is the one that I have made.

As you see in the image, it is not my full name. It's my nickname. Unfortunately I couldn't do my whole name because it didn't fit on the screen of the Google Drawing.

I hope you liked my design.

My 12th Birthday!!

It was 11:50pm on a Saturday night and I was wide awake full of anticipation. Some kind of force was trying to say that something exceptional was waiting for me, but I couldn’t remember what. My hands took over my body and they tiredly took my mobile out of my pocket. I glanced at it. I went on the calender to see the date and in no time, there was a smile on my face.

Ten minutes passed so quickly, and then all my family and friends started writing messages to me and sending me texts with those two words. You must be wondering what all these people had been writing to me? “Happy Birthday” were those two amazing words that had been making me feel so special and happy.

I woke up at 9:00am and I had received a lot of messages, I replied to all and had a little break. I worked my day through receiving gifts and, guests coming over. By then it was 4:00pm and I was worn-out and exhausted. I went for a nap and had completely forgotten about my birthday cake.

I woke up at 6:00pm and my oldest sister had told me to look at mobile. I took a look and it had a message. I read “Hurry up and wake up. There is something/someone waiting for you in your cupboard”.

As fast as I could, I ran and she followed me with the camera recording me. I was SO excited, what could it be?? I cautiously opened my cupboard and I didn’t see anything. I was heartbroken then when I turned my head to the right, I was ecstatic. It was as if I was going to faint right there when I saw that one person.

“JUSTIN BIEBER!!!” I shouted and my sisters started laughing really badly. This was the gift that I thought was ‘The Best’, In this gift it included two massive Justin Bieber posters, a magazine, a big book and a cd called “Teen Idol”. I looked at the pile of gifts and placed ‘The Best’ Gift neatly on the side which really stood out from the rest.

I went downstairs and straight on the table I saw my favourite cake which was lighted up with amazing candles. Once again I was given a surprise. Today had been my favourite day of this year. As everybody sang Happy Birthday to me, I made a wish and blew the candles out.

As I cut the amazing delicate cake, my mouth was watering, I just couldn’t resist the scrumptious, Black Forest cake. “Here, have some!!” my sister fed me and as I had a little bit she put the rest on my nose. “Eeeaaaa” I shouted, I had to pay her back for that and I did, by repeating the thing she did to me.

After a long day of good fun, I was tired and obviously exhausted. I dragged myself upstairs with my brother and cousins so they could help me take all my gifts downstairs. We all managed to get the presents down in one go. As I managed to rip through all the gift wrap, I gasped many times due to all the amazing presents that I didn’t even expect.

I wonder how my birthday will be next year, I just can’t wait till I turn 13. There will be many more things I will look forward to next year. I hope this one year passes by real quickly.

Go Hard Out for the Hungry!!

The 40 hour famine is a special event that people collaborate together and support world hunger. Last night 22 people from Pt England school, supported all these people in East Timor. It is so amazing, how many people are willing to stand up for hunger and poverty in places like East Timor. Did you know that hunger in East Timor is worse then most of Africa?

What is the 40 hour famine?
If you don't know what this is then let me tell you. Well this is a event where people come together and stay hungry for 40 hours and you can only have barley sugar, Just Juice and water.

Why do we do this?
We do this to support world hunger. This is pretty hard, but we do this see how it feels and to experience how people in East Timor live without food. Did you know that 50-70% of people are lucky enough to have at least 1 meal a day. Another reason of why we do this is because we get a chance to give money to people in that country.

I think that by doing this it is very helpful and we can also experience how life is for people in all these countries like East Timor.

What is Geometry to me?

Geometry is the study of angles, perimeter, area and volume. Recently room 20 has been learning about translation. This means when you move a shape or something without rotating, resizing, flipping or anything else. In fact it just means sliding without changing anything visually.

A few days ago we created a grid using Google Drawing. We then, made a shape and tessellated it. If you see in my previous post, I translated my shape 4x4 which means 4 down and 4 across.

According to me learning about geometry isn’t only using your knowledge about angles, perimeter, area and volume, I personally think it has also taught me a lot of new words which I didn’t even understand at first.

My class will be learning about geometry the following term/year. It is going to be an amazing term learning about this aspect of maths because I think it’s very exciting and thrilling to learn about this topic.

Geometry - Translation

Geometry is something new to all the year 7's in room 20. Today we created a grid and tessellated a shape. The image you see above is the one I have created. I moved my shape 4 down and 4 across, so this means I did 4x4. Room 20 created this grid using Google Drawing and it has really helped us because I think that doing geometry on google drawing is easier than doing it in your maths book.

Today I have learnt that translation means moving a shape or something without rotating, resizing, flipping or anything else. Room 20 will be doing more translation later on this term/year.

Tornado in NZ (Auckland)

A tragedy struck yesterday. What do you think happened? A Earthquake, Did a Volcano erupt?, Well it was nothing like that, it was actually a tornado. It was a huge one and damaged severe buildings.

This devastating twister hit Albany, North Shore approximately at 3pm. It was a calamity with widespread events, it also managed to kill a lot of innocent citizens of Auckland. This mean beast was such an disaster to all these people out there in this city.

The power of this tornado uplifted cars and trucks off the ground. Beasts like these have such effective power as if it was like a jet-engine descending.

Thanks to thins link for letting me use this image.

Having a Happy End (Term 1)

As I woke up in the morning, I groaned knowingly that school had ended. Not that I was not happy but I felt both ways, happy since it was the Easter Holidays and sad because I won’t be making eye contact with my friends.

As soon as I got ready and had my breakfast, I headed towards my laptop. Suddenly my eyes drifted towards my bag, as if there was this strong force forcing me to see something. I went across to my bag and unzipped it. My eyes fell on a envelope which had my name written on it.

I remembered that Toreka had given me that envelope. I wondered what was in it. The previous day, I had seen Toreka on a computer in the ICT suite doing something and if Selena or I even went close to it she would have told us to get away. I ripped it open since I was so curious about it.

“YES” I shouted, I knew it was going to be the thing I expected it to be. I read the letter out and was so excited. You must be wondering what Toreka had given me. Well it was a very cool invite to her birthday plus, we were going to have a sleepover!

I showed the letter to my parents and not long after they gave me an answer. “Please be a yes , please be a yes!” I was repeating one thing over and over in my mind. “Okay” my ears were so eager to hear that one word.

So here I am, waiting to quickly flick a message to Toreka saying that I will be coming. I wonder what it will be like over there. This is soo exciting, after all I will be making eye contact with my friends and having a great time with them. Finally there will be a highlight for my holiday!

Picnic vs Friends

“What are you planning to do over there? Are you going to have a swim?” Selena whispered in my ear. I said no since I had overheard that the water at the reserve was polluted. My friends and I were chattering excitedly due to the muttering that Mr Burt was having with the other teachers. The whole school sat in the hall waiting for a reply from Mr Burt.

Every year the whole school went to the Pt England Reserve to have a picnic. Guess what? Today was the day, 25th of March was the date Mr Burt had chosen for our picnic.

One by one every class went out of the hall and started heading down towards the reserve. I heard a lot of people growing restless and impatient. fifty metres away and then...BANG! The music will start and the picnic will start rocking!

My class, room 20 found a nice tree which provided shelter, to sit under. The view we had was of the water, it was shining in the sun and it was absolutely STUNNING! The glow on the sea was like a shining crystal.

Santy joined my friends and I for the fun that we were having. Toreka managed to get a mat for us to relax on. The wind was blowing hard so it created the mat to form a wave over our heads, as if we were in a tsunami. All this time we were laughing and having a lovely time.

The day had flown as if it was a plane from over our head just vanishing from the sky into the clouds. I’d had an wonderful time relaxing and having fun with my friends. “It has been, one of the best days of my life” Selena murmured into my ear.

Camp Take Charge!

I couldn’t believe it, there had been so many other items and in any time it could have been the respectables turn. I stopped and turned my head to look around. People were cheering for the team that was on the stage. A nerve-wracking moment had come, a big round of applause filled the halls atmosphere. “Now its time for the RESPECTABLEZ!” Mrs Langitupu shouted with enthusiasm, “Is this a dream ?” according to Selena this was a dream, she muttered underneath her breath.

Our year 7 and 8's camp concert was on and it was the 2nd night of camp. You know where we camped? Well we camped on the school grounds. My group had a lot of fun because we did everything carefully and we took charge of our things, you think this might be stink, but we actually had a lot of fun.

When it was our time to dance, everybody started to cheer. The music started to play and the first group of girls started to dance, we performed to the song called “Chain Hang Low” the voices of the throng started to raise. I started feeling scared, anxiety had grown in me. We did our performance and there was a BIG round of applause. I guess a lot of people liked ours.

As soon as everybody was finished, we sat down and the last few performance’s finished. We were turning impatient to know who was going to be the winners of Camp Take Charge. “The Winners of 2011 Camp Take Charge are the.... DRUMROLLS PLEASE” Mrs Langitupu shouted and drumrolls hit the floor!! “The Respectables”. We shouted with happiness inside us, my ears were throbbing.

At the end we all got a handful of lollies, we saved some for the next day. Everybody got sent to their tents since it was night. As I went to my tent I waited silently for my tentmates, they came in thinking that they would get to scare me unfortunately I shouted “Yaay” they were the ones who had the big fright.

I had a terrific time at camp and it was awesome. I just couldn’t believe it, 3 days had passed by so quickly and it was as if it had just been 12 hours! From the senior school camp I learnt to be respectful to my team and all the people who came to Camp.

Teddy Bearz Movie!

Last week on Thursday, Mrs Nua gave each Table a task to do. The table I am on is called the Teddy Bearz, the members of this group are Shontal, Tuipolotu, Kaloni, Ronald, Selena and me. The task that we had to do is, out of the 9 values we had to choose one and show our class what that value looks like.

I have put together this movie for my group and we chose the value 'Respect'. The movie above shows what we did to show our class what respect looks like. I hope you enjoy and understand how this value looks like in our school.

The Program I used to create this movie: iMovie 11

Welcome to Point England!

The year 7 and 8 Extension people have been making a movie of the Pt England Way. We got some quick snapshots and added them into a iMovie 11 and made a quick movie. The video above is the movie I have.

Mrs Tele'a told us to make this movie because she wanted to know our skills with IMovie 11. We made a movie about the Point England Way because we wanted to show the people in our community about how we take charge. This movie also shows what we do in our school and what is so cool about this school.

Thank you Mrs Burt and Mrs Tele'a!

For the 2 fantastic teachers:
This is a post for Mrs Burt and Mrs Tele'a, this is because if you saw in my previous post, I had done a silhouette using Photoshop. Well I'm saying you because I have noticed that I have become so addicted to this program now. So thanks to the teachers who made me interested in Photoshop.

At 3.00pm today, I sent a quick mail to Mrs Burt and Mrs Tele'a saying a thanks message. If you see the image above, well that is the image I made for both the lovely teachers. I also sent this image to them. Thanks once again, I am never going to forgot this.

For viewers:
If you want to know who to do this then click on this link (Youtube Link). This link will take you to the tutorial. For this, you will need to have one of the following: Photoshop CS3, Photoshop CS4 or Photoshop CS5. I hope will do the tutorial and see how easy it is for youself.

Amazing things with Photoshop!

Today Mrs Tele'a sent us a link which included videos of how to do these very cool things with Photoshop. Toreka, Selena and me had a lot of fun checking them out. "Why don't you give them a shot?" Mrs Tele'a exclaimed. "Mrs Burt also wants us to learn more in Photoshop because they have more functions and Hyperstudio is so easy to use".

As we started to give it a try, we all chose a little project of what we would want to do. So we looked at the tutorials which were in the link and I had chosen one where we could do a silhouette.

If you see the images above, those are the silhouettes that I have made. They look amazing and if you see in my next post, I have said a thank you to the teachers who helped me get interested with Photoshop. So I hope you liked my images I have made.

Thank You Parents/Helpers for Camp!

As you know that camp has finished for the year 7 and 8’s. Camp Take Charge all happened by the help of the very nice and kind helpers and parents. If you were not there, this camp wouldn’t of happened and we wouldn’t have had a great camp. I would like to say thank to all you hard working parents for making the amazing food for us and everything you did for our camp.

We really appreciate whatever you have done for us. This includes making sure that we would have gone to sleep on time etc. So once again, I would like to say thank you to every single thing you have done. I hope you help out next year and once again we have a successful camp.

How to Pitch a Tent

How to Construct a tent.

Equipment:
A tent package including:
Pegs
Hammer
Base
Interior
Poles
Fly

Method:
1. Open the package and unfold the tent and make sure you have the following equipment which are listed above. The following equipment are essential: Hammer or Mallet. As soon as that has happened put the fly aside and start working with your base (Make sure your door is facing the right way).

2. As soon as you have separated the fly and the tent, get the pegs and nail it down with a hammer .The corner of the tent have little (eyelets) and make sure you have nailed it at around about a 45 degree angle. This is so then they don't come out easily and while camping your tent does not break down.

3. Get the poles out. Be careful because there are 3 poles and 2 have the same length and that is long, But the other one is the shortest one. You don’t need to use the short one, you use it later for the fly.

4. Now lay the two longer poles out in a X shape. Where the corners are of the inner tent, you can see that there are hooks , so you hook them on to the poles that are on the top of them. Now you need to tie it to the middle of the poles. Now place the fly over the top of the tent and make sure that the door is facing the front.

5. Now that you have finished that, throw the fly over the tent and and when you start working with the fly make sure the door is closed. So then it goes perfectly. Thread the short pole through the sleeve of the fly. This will make the top of the tent stable. Make sure the pole is secured to the ground.

6. Nail the Guy ropes down but here is a useful hint: nail the Guy ropes on the edges first so the tent has good balance.

7.When you are finished with the Guy ropes, there will be some hooks, you will need to hook it on to the poles.

8. Now you are finished, make sure that all the Guy ropes and the pegs are secure and tight.

9. Enjoy camping in your tent and if your breaks down during 24 hours, please don’t accuse us.

Amazing Camp Highlight!

Yesterday was the last day of the year 7 and 8 camp, and we had an stupendous time there. It was magnificent. There were so many fun activities we did, such as rockup, kayaking, movie night, etc.

My groups name was the Respectables and our leaders were Feki and Shontal. Respectables were so lucky that they had such good leaders. They lead us through hard times and encouraged us to not give up.

My favourite thing was the concert, It had been one of the best camp concerts I had ever been too. We rocked the school out and impressed every single judge. When it was time for the judges to announce the winners of the Camp Concert, all the year 7 and 8’s gave a huge drum roll. “And the winners for the camp concert 2011 are...The Respectables!!” Mr Jacobson said enthusiastically. Everybody started clapping and cheering, which made us feel really proud.

The most valuable lesson or thing I learnt from Camp was co-operating with people from other classes and helping them with there weaknesses. During camp everybody respected one and other and we had a GREAT time, playing games and having so much fun.

Statistics Graph using Google Docs?

Room 20 has been learning about Statistics. Mrs Nua has taught us how to make graphs. For this we had to create a form and ask people a question you wanted to know. I wanted to know what Room 20's Favourite Teacher was.

I sent out a form to all the pupil in room 20 and collected the data. As soon as I had done that, I turned it into a tally chart via Google Spreadsheet. I used all of this data and converted it into a bar graph. I chose to do a bar graph because I thought it was the best way to express my information.

If you see the picture above then you will see the graph I made using Google Docs.

Ultra Fast Broadband

Ultra Fast broadband from KPE TV on Vimeo.

Do you know what Ultra Fast Broadband is? Well this is a broadband that some people are trying to get all around New Zealand. This is because they want us to get on the internet quickly and we could use the internet more often so that it helps our education. One of the best things is that this is not only about faster internet. If you watch this movie you will found out all about UFB (Ultra-Fast Broadband).

Tech @ Tamaki

"Yaay, we're going to Food Technology" Seini-Mino exclaimed. It was Monday and it was the day where all the year 7 and 8's went to tech! It was obviously my first time there, so it was very thrilling for me.

Every Monday we went to Tech at 8:50. We all were put in a group , I was in 7B. Why do you think we went there? I think we went to Tech because the teachers wanted us to experience subjects that weren't in our school, such as:
1. Woodwork
2. Graphics
3. Science
4. Cooking
and
5. Electronics

As we headed towards Tamaki collage, Seini-Mino and I chattered excitedly. 7B was the group that was going to cooking. We stepped into a new environment and could feel the air of excitement.

Mrs Heka, which was our cooking teacher took us into the cooking room and said a little introduction to introduce her to us. As we got into position (which was in a kitchen with 3 people in your group) we had to stand and wait quietly. There was dead silence like we were at a funeral for a minute or so because Mrs Heka was doing something.

“Today we will be making sticky buns aka Chelsey buns” Mrs Heka announced. “Yaaaay” a crowed of Pt England Kids screamed. I was one of them. After my group, which was Seini-Mino, Tupak and me had all of the ingredients we started to do the real fun. This was cooking.

As soon as we finished making the buns, putting them into the oven and doing all the overall jobs, we started to pack our sticky buns into some bags. This was because so then we could take it back to school and finish it.

It was morning-tea time already and I kept it in my bag for a little while. I took it out and started to munch on it, I couldn’t resist eating not 1 but actually 2. Scrumptious and exquisite. I loved it when we went to take a bite and you would hear that crunch, it meant that we cooked it just right.

Whenever we go to tech, we make a lot of heavenly food and it tastes awesome. I think that going to these classes make us learn more and it also helps us know more about technology and other things that associate with cooking and food.
